I told you I'm completely mentally distracted.

I'm contemplating contacting the local community colleges to ask if I can teach a continuing education class in German when I finish this certificate, and maybe also asking about teaching a continuing education class in creative writing (under personal enrichment, which at the moment is all painting-type stuff). Y'all's thoughts?

That sounds interesting! I'm not cut out for teaching, myself, but I can see why it appeals to others; for that matter, I'd do it if I could! It's the accessory skills I lack, more than the desire to share knowledge.

And as a wordgeek myself, I'd love to see any ContEd program expand into writing from an all-visual-art origin! More people trying writing = more people succeeding, and that means more stuff for me to read one day. :D

When I think about my writing resume, it's so short. I have 2 published stories, a few con panels, and a workshop or two. And crit group, but that doesn't really count. So I'll have to make a really compelling argument, I guess...

http://durhamtech.edu/html/employment/jobdescription/continuingeducation.htm is their current list of openings for continuing ed. I haven't looked at Wake Tech (though I have a friend who works there and would probably give me a good reference). Alamance tech seems to require MAs in subjects, though I couldn't find anything about their non-credit courses when searching their website.

There must be some rule that community college websites are horribly un-navigable.

Sounds like fun! Go for it. Teaching 6 hrs/week 120 hrs is only 20 weeks or two quarters or so.

I don't think I could do more than 2-3 hours a week at the community college, since they tend to be once a week. Though there's a beginning Spanish that's 3 hrs twice a week, so maybe. I have to get all the requirements finished by March 2015, and I'll hopefully have the coursework finished around the new year or early next year at the latest. I don't really want it to take another year almost to get enough hours in. I was mainly thinking of teaching at the local CCs after I finish the program.

I contacted the one local language school that offers German, and they said that completing the 50-hour practicum will be enough experience to work with them.
