Boston! July 11-15

I'm going to ReaderCon, which is outside Boston, and I'm flying Thursday & Monday. I believe I have a room for Thursday night at the con hotel, but I'm looking for space Sunday night.

I don't need much space; a couch will work. My flight out is at 12:45, so even allowing 2 hours pre-flight, I won't need to be out at the crack of dawn or anything. I have no major allergy problems, but I will need to be able to sleep undisturbed lest I get a migraine. If you have allergy problems, be warned that everything I own is covered in cat hair.

I do not yet know how I'm getting from the con hotel (in Burlington) to Boston. I may be able to get a ride to Alewife, or even someplace more central, depending on the charity of others with cars. (There is reportedly a bus to Alewife, but it comes every 2 hours.)

I also do not yet know how I'm getting from the airport to the con hotel, but since my flight arrives before noon and con things don't begin until 8 pm, I'll have some time to kill in the afternoon. Possibly even toward 6 pm dinner, if people can be gotten together by then. (Boston friends, I haven't seen you in ages.)

I may enjoy playing tourist in your fair city, but I'll still have my luggage with me, which doesn't sound like a fun game in July. I haven't actually visited much of Boston, so that could be fun, as long as I can leave my bags somewhere. (They will be minimal, as I'm flying carry-on-only. But lugging a backpack around for 6 hours isn't my idea of fun.)

ANYWAY! If you have a bit of crash space I can borrow Sunday night and/or want to show me cool things in your city, let me know!

My usual routine is to go out via T + bus (since I live near the Red Line) and try to find a ride back (either all the way home or just to the T) with the bus as a backup plan (though I can't remember the last time I actually needed it).

The Sunday afternoon schedule for the bus seems to be every hour-ish: 55 minute headways except for the last bus of the day.

That's good to know. I've never used the bus up there. I know someone who's driving, but they may want to leave earlier than I'd like to on Sunday. Maybe I can sadface a ride off someone else, or take the bus. Dunno.

How long does it take to get out there via the T/bus?

Google Maps transit directions give a half hour for the actual bus ride once it leaves Alewife; add in waiting time for the bus, wait and riding time for the Red Line, and some fudge for traffic and I'd allow an hour (more if I was planning on being there at a a particular time for a panel or dinner get together).

I generally aim for the 5:40pm bus and just plan for dinner in Burlington rather than eating in Cambridge.

*nod* 5:30-6 is my usual dinner time, so unless I get a late/huge lunch, I'm going to want to eat around then. But we'll see. I don't know if there'll be anything I want to see Thursday night, though maybe meeting up with folks and stuff beforehand.

And some of my Bostonian friends own cars, so maybe I can get a ride.

That looks like it's walkable to the T, so I may take you up on that. Would there be space available to deposit a backpack for a few hours Thursday? (and someone to open the door, etc) If my flight gets in at 11:45, and it takes ~45-60 minutes to get from the airport to Cambridge, and I don't need to leave for Burlington until 7, I'll have something like 6 hours to kill.

Yeah, it's 4 months from now, so who knows exactly where they'll be, but hey. I've never visited Boston properly, so I'd like to see some stuff.
