I agree with your thoughts on the WorldCon bids! (Would've told you so over there, but didn't want to go through the OpenID process twice.) I probably can't afford even Spokane, but if C.J. Cherryh is there I might have to sell kidney and go anyway...

One nice thing about the Spokane bid is that they have various levels of hotel prices--the budget one at $90/night to the fancier one connected to the convention center at $140/night. Sure, the membership is still going to be a lot, and flying to Spokane isn't very cheap, but a person can save $200 or so on the hotel, which is significant.
If Spokane happens, Ben and I may be looking for roommates, so...
Ohh, that is nice! (And I'm not averse to being farther from the con, so long as it's within a ten- or fifteen-minute walk; so I had considered looking for budget hotels a little further out, when I figured the Con hotel(s) would all be expensive.)

Definitely keep me in mind! :D I'll save as much money as I can manage, because CJ Cherryh! (The only WorldCon I have attended? I went pretty much solely because Lois Bujold was going to be there and was reading from her unreleased book! So apparently One Favourite Author is all it takes to drag me into it.) :D
Some day I'll make it to a WorldCon. Meanwhile, I'm not sure what to do with the 2015 bids. I have my own reasons for being wary of the Spokane bid, and I do recognize a few of the names on the Orlando bid.
I honestly don't know what role Mike Willmoth would play in the con com if the Spokane bid wins. I hope to dog it isn't programming chair, because that was a righteous clusterfuck. Bobbie duFault and Sally Woehrle are supposed to be the chairs, according to the website.
I chafe against the SMOF shit a lot, but idk maybe I'm still young and stupid enough to believe that I can be that annoying person agitating from within. I'm one of those horribly organized people who like planning things (so much so that I'm taking a class at Durham Tech to learn how to plan things professionally...), and maybe I can get people on a timeline.
Really, I just want to see CJ Cherryh, who never leaves the PacNW because she doesn't fly.
