I have a(n admittedly vague) outline of Novel 2. I have 15 scene index cards lined up in Scrivener, hitting the major plot points. This isn't anywhere near enough to make a full novel, but I at least have about a dozen more plot points planned out than I did when I started on Iron and Rust.
The tricky part is going to be working out the politics. (Someday I want to write politics like CJ Cherryh, but that day is not today. I hope to have more logical politics than Gundam, at least.)
So I started on the first scene, which now has 485 words. I'd write more, but I need to go to my PT, and Ben'll be home soon. My calendar tomorrow is delightfully clear, at least. I just need to not get distracted looking up low-carb, grain-free wet cat food options that are available in Germany. Because the Plan™ does not involve moving across the Atlantic with Isis.
I'm not sure how to tag this. It's in the same universe as the space Germans, but there are no space Germans involved in this tale. (Well, maybe a little at the end. And probably an ambassador or two.) I don't have a title for it, either. I can rename the tags later, at least.

Wow, when you pick an example you do not aim low! :D I, too, would like to write politics like Cherryh, but it's a lot like saying I want to write character like Bujold -- I feel as if I should look around me and make sure nobody with a recording device can hear me, first. :D

Oh, dear. Grain-free stuff is hard to find there, I take it? Or is it more a matter of "no, but they all have some other ingredient that she can't have" or somesuch? (Knew a dog like that, once! Couldn't have grains; also couldn't have fish, and just TRY finding an antiallergy/grainfree food that didn't have some form of fish oil tossed in...)

I was on a fan panel at Dragon*Con a few years ago, about who our favorite Vorkosiverse characters were (or something), and we were all "Oh yeah! and this other guy!"
There's some grain-free stuff, including a few brands that are available here like Orijen, and this Swedish brand Bozita whose flavors include elk. The main problem with Isis is that, aside from her grain allergy, she has diabetes, so she needs low carbs in her food, too. That rules out dry foods completely, and a lot of the wet foods use veggies to replace the grain filler. But Bozita looks promising, since it says it's at least 97% meat (in the cans; the tetra-paks are a little less meaty but probably still OK).
Then there's the other cat who needs low-protein food because of her chronic renal failure and medications for hyperthyroidism and anxiety. (Yeah, one of my cats is on an anti-depressant. It works, though.)
