At first, I just felt this thumping under my feet, like one of the cats was playing overly enthusiastically, except there were no cats under my chair. Then I heard this noise like a hundred jackhammers or a freight train, so I went to the front of the house to see out the window if a tornado was coming my way (which didn't make any sense anyway, because the sky is a gorgeous, clear blue today, and the weather is wonderful). There was a school bus driving by, but that obviously wasn't responsible. The drop leaves on the dining room table went bang-bang-bang, the cats ran around going WTF?, and it stopped.
Then I went to my twitter and facebook feeds and saw everyone from here to New York posting "Earthquake???" and was like, oh, huh, I guess that makes sense.
