Have you finished reading & critting my novel? I've gotten 2 back, and they're polar opposite on most aspects, so I'd really like at least one more to balance it out.
If you received mine (not sure, as I didn't hear back), you can take it with a grain of salt, considering my background, the type of fiction you want this to be, and the type of fiction I write. If your other beta is more a reader of the type of fiction you want to write, give them more credence. I am, and always will be, more drawn to character-driven works, and it will always show in my feedback.
Yours is one of the two! The first person who got it back to me said I had "too many named characters" so she couldn't keep them straight, and a lot of her criticisms didn't make sense (I don't think she reads this subgenre at all). I don't want to discount them, but...
Yahhh, I definitely disagree with that. I didn't find it to be too many named characters. But then again, I am used to reading fantasy with 3020398423 characters and keeping them (fairly) straight ;).
I just read 1632 (a small town in WV is picked up and dropped into 1632 Thuringia, hijinks ensue), and, hell, there's easily 50 named characters, and at least 8 POVs.
But, like, what, so I'm supposed to refer to every. single. character. as the gunner, the medic, the grenadier, the other squad's medic, the other squad's grenadier? wtf no. Coming up with names is a giant pain in the ass, but you have to do it, you know?
I have had a much crazier couple of months than I expected, so I am not finished yet, but I *AM* working on it, and will do my bets to speed things up.
Sorry, I've been a bit busy. (work has turned out to be a bit more hectic than I was planning on it during this past month or so).
I have been reading it. Hopefully, I will have some criticism for you soon.
I know my husband has finished reading and has been composing an e-mail with criticism/comment on the story. (I thought he sent it but maybe not?) I will ask him about it tonight.

Sorry for the delay.
