I fail at writing today.

I had the realization last night that I need to completely rewrite the beginning, which is sort of putting me off further progress.

I also have started to think the whole plot of this novel is sucky and pointless and not worth the hassle of editing it. I know, that's fairly normal, but this may go beyond that.

This is one more reason I wish I had a writing group, so I could get their opinions on whether this story is boring.

Okay, okay, enough already! You are digging at my guilt-strings! Shoot the latest draft to me and I'll give it a read-through. I'm not working on Skywatch right now ANYWAY, so I might as well get some actual creative work done.

I don't promise to be deep, but I do promise to read it and have opinions. And I am not afraid to tell fellow writers when they are mucking it up, because I want my fellow writers to extend to me the same courtesy of assuming I want to know that so I can fix it. Which by the same token means that if I say I like something or that it works, I mean it.

I can't say as I have anything resembling a cohesive draft right now; on the pre-revision read, I found a ton of 'this is stupid' and 'this sucks' and 'if I did this instead, it would be more interesting,' and I haven't gotten that far in the revising process. So there are holes where I have things like "pirates attack the ship, causing further dilemma."

Of course, I finally got back some notes on Valkyrie One, and she wants revisions of the ending. (She doesn't like the pacing and thinks the final scene is unnecessary and wants me to move that bit into the scene where they stop the terrorist. I'm not sure I agree with this assessment. I'll make a separate entry on it, though.)

The novel is set about 8 years after V1, and a few of the same people show up.

I'll hammer something together and see if I can get Scrivener to compile in a way that makes sense for this...

Also, um, I only have access to Word, so if it could be in a Word-compliant format, that would be awesome (yes, yes, scary corporate entity, whatever, it's what came with the laptop. Usually I am not this blase, but when it comes to Word, I am resigned).

Scrivener exports to doc, rtf, open office, and a few others, so it shouldn't be a problem.
