(And Laugenbrötchen... but not just for Christmas. They're DELICIOUS. Especially when you put Nutella on them. Mmmm, total lecker.)

They're the best! (Your icon is kind of terrifying. It took me a moment to register that it was in German...)

Did you know that Delta's Biscoff cookies are the Dutch version, Spekulaas? I have a package on my dresser, and I should really eat them.

Biscoff are Lotus brand Speculoos. They're Belgian, and I used to buy them in France all the time. So yummy!

Holland, Belgium... same thing, right? ;) I remembered reading that on the Cupcake Project blog (then got the detail wrong, but still), and that there's a spread that tastes like Spekulatius. I can't remember what it's called, though :P

I've considered buying a Spekulatius form, since I have a recipe for them in my Dr Oetker's Christmas baking book...

I am terrified of the speuculoos paste. It just seems wrong. Like Arsenic Complexion Wafers. It was not meant to be! And yeah Belgium and the Netherlands are right next door to each other, and speculoos is a Dutch word, so it's an understandable assumption. I just knew about it being Belgian because in France all the packages are clearly marked as being from Brugges, which, I guess has its own special type of speculoos.

Sort of like Nürnberg has its own special variety of Lebkuchen, which is prized above the others? (Though all Lebkuchen is awesome if you ask me. Nürnberger is just made with more nuts and less flour.)

Does one eat the Arsenic Complexion Wafers or put them on one's skin? I can't imagine it would be particularly healthy. But then, arsenic (as Salvarsan) was the best treatment for syphilis until penicillin came around. I, for one, welcome our modern medicine!
