I had a hard time getting back into writing after vacation and traveling and all. It was compounded by my having to get into a different character's head *and* figure out some plot. I think I've worked it out well enough now, because I got into a groove.

I'm going to have to switch POVs for one of the upcoming scenes, I think, because Hikaru shouldn't be involved in the actual fighting part, and I'd like to show the fighting part. Then she gets to go in and do fun stuff once they've secured the location.

Anyway, now it's time for dinner.

Only tangentially related, but... have I mentioned Catchn (http://www.catchn.net/) to you yet? Cuz if not, I probably should. It's not a revenue source, but it is a potential attention/eyeball source... and I'd feel like I let the maintainer down if I didn't mention it to my writer friends. ;)

Hm, interesting. I don't write much short fiction, though. (I can write a scene <1000 words, or I can write 60,000+ words. Not so much in between.) There are people who advocate the production of short fiction to hone one's craft (and to make some money), but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Mainly, I felt like I should at least mention it - could've sworn you'd mentioned something a while back about working on a short-short, and she had mentioned this is a place for flash and such, and I couldn't remember if I'd put two and two together then. ;)

I tend to agree that there's a huge difference between writing a short story, writing short-shorts, and writing any major work. There's a certain degree to which writing is writing, and a scene is a scene, but the structure of a novel is just another animal. You could have a lot of novels in you, and no stories, or vice versa.
