feuervogel: (writing)
Despite being distracted, I got 1550 words today. This outlining and planning thing makes a huge difference in the ability to get through a scene in a logical way.

In attempting to write this section, I've come to realize that I have no conception of modern warfare or urban warfare. Black Hawk Down comes recommended, so I'm going to have to rent that sometime. (*After* vacation.) Get Ben to run out to VisArt (do they even have any stores anymore? The one in Carrboro?)

It's kind of amusing that my conception of war ends around 1870.

See if you can do some reading up on the Lebanese civil war from the early '80s. It was basically the prototype for the ongoing Iraq war, lots of useful stuff to learn there about conventional versus irregular forces, the comparative usefulness of different armored vehicles in an urban setting, stuff like that.

VisArt does indeed have only one location left, the one in Carrboro.
