So Animazement was this weekend. I went. It was fun, I guess. I spent most of it in Artists' Alley.
Friday
kirinn and I headed out to Raleigh, checked in to the hotel, and wandered over to the con. It was shortly before noon, so Artists' Alley hadn't officially opened yet, but we went in to set up. L had to go pick up her brother, so she left. She didn't get back until after 7, which sort of pissed me off. But
rowena_zane was there, too, and we worked the table a while.
Finally after L got back and we could leave, a group of us met LA and went out to the Flying Saucer. They have eleventy types of beer! I tried a Maredsous 10 (thumbs up!), a sip of Kev's Hell's Belles, much of Ben's beer milkshake, and had a Franziskaner because I was too buzzed to care what I drank next. The goat cheese pizza slice is AMAZING.
LA and I walked back and caught part of Hell. Meh. Then she went home and I went back to the hotel and waited for Ben to come back. Mostly avoided hangover.
Saturday I had a video room shift from 10-2. L was nowhere to be found, and R was doing things at the con (dealers' room? Eating food? Panels?), but she was found by noon and sat up at the table which had been EMPTY. Thanks, L. Srsly. I wore my Frau Mölders costume (from Emma) and got a lot of pictures taken. Which is sweet. Went down to the dealers' room when my shift ended and bought a pair of model kits from Gundam 00 (an Ahead and a Tieren Taozi.) All I ever buy at cons anymore is fanart and model kits.
After that, my feet were threatening mutiny, so I went back to change, grabbed lunch, and went up to the Alley. I finished making a Kirby, which then sold in like 2 minutes. O_o I know what I'm making for the auction next year. Sheesh.
Stayed there until 7:30 when some more folks came up to hang out. L had gone off to cosplay, so we just put our stuff under the table and closed up. We went back to the Flying Saucer! Damn, that place is awesome. I had a Hell's Belles (pretty nice, refreshing) then a Stone Oak Aged Arrogant Bastard (weird.) This time in addition to the pizza I tried a pretzel, which is holyshit seriously good. I'll be glad when the smoking ban in bars goes into effect, because I was getting sinus-y. (I'm a lot more sensitive than I used to be; no one else was bothered by it. We were near the doors, so it was less bad than if we'd been inside further.)
Sunday after we checked out of the hotel, we went back over to the con and set up in AA again. R came back, and we set stuff out & she did a couple commissions. L's art supplies were basically an explosion of mess under the table, which was annoying. And no one knew where she was, and neither of us wanted to collect her crap. So we sat there a while, and a dozen messengers went looking for L. She eventually turned up and said, "I didn't know we were setting up today." 0_o So, uh, you were going to leave your junk under the table all day?
So that was con. Since I don't go for panels anymore and spent most of my time hanging around anyway, I thought I ought to try selling shit instead. It worked; I sold enough Haros to earn my outlay in yarn and fluff.
Since the AA table was really a COUP table, shared by a few people, we should totally get more people involved next year. Arty people of COUP who want to sell fanart prints, make some and put them in a folder thing, then we'll sell them. (Though if you're selling stuff, taking a shift or two would be appreciated!) But we'll need better/more organized display stuff, and R said she'd work on that. Especially if we have 3-4 people selling prints, 1-2 taking commissions, and me with my amigurumi. We'll need a *lot* of organization, especially under the damn table. (R suggested if it won't fit into a tote/crate/small box, don't leave it there. I like that plan.) I've got a cash box (which I opened and found almost $10 inside, mostly in change!) which we can use.
I don't want to get all OCD-planner now, since the con just ended, but it's something we need to work out in advance of next year, preferably around the same time the table is reserved. (I like organizing things. I'm good at it, and it makes me happy. Organizing *people,* however, is a pain in the ass.)
