I'm impressed at Cherryh's outlining ability, though not necessarily the copy editing :/ There's one family spelled alternately Kadagidi and Kadigidi, vowels appear and disappear at random, Patinandi Aerospace is mysteriously Patanadi Aerospace once, and I can't even count how many variations on mecheita/mecheiti there are. There's also a very lazy way to get Bren under Ilisidi's roof in the Bujavid at the end of book ... 8? And by lazy I mean "oops I forgot that he already had an apartment there and the copy editor didn't catch it."
But all the things that appear in the later books are either vaguely hinted at in earlier books or at least follows from things already mentioned in earlier books.
I don't think I could ever plot a 15-book series well enough in advance that later things don't contradict earlier things.
