It's one sided from the point of view of disabled people, who are asking people to stop using a term that insults them. That makes them feel like lesser beings. Is not using an insulting term that much of a burden on you? So much of a burden that you'll defend its use vigorously?
It's an offensive term. Don't use it in my space. I can't control yours, obviously, but I can control mine.
