DEUTSCHLAND VOR! Round of 8, baby.
27 Jun 2010 12:21 pm(Sorry,
raphaellover. Good match, though.)
England should really have had 2 points, and if it had ended 2-1, or any single-point difference, that goal the ref didn't see (and didn't count) would have tainted the victory. But some amazing plays by my new favorite bb Özil, including a run straight up the left side, WIDE OPEN, and a pass over to Müller, who was also WIDE OPEN, who put it square in the back of the net, then did the same thing a few minutes later.
The youngsters are showing their skill admirably. Jogi's confidence in their success is well-placed.
Now if he would just quit playing fucking GOMEZ, who tripped over the fucking ball when he was really damn clear for a run on goal, that would be a good thing. (Like I commented to
acari, maybe he wanted to see if Gomez could redeem himself for future matches, when we were safely ahead by 3 with 15 minutes left. I'd say Gomez didn't.)
It was a good game, lots of nail-biting moments, and some great plays. The German defense was a bit open on too many occasions, but they (somehow) managed. Even if Boateng's ass stopped the ball when he wasn't even looking.
This match is full of things that make football exciting.
(And as a reward, we face the winner of Argentina vs Mexico. Which I'm predicting will be Leo Messi. Which means I'll be wearing my DFB jersey and rooting for Mexico this afternoon, because our Abwehr can't hold off Leo Messi. Even if Mertesacker's a foot taller than he is.)
