On con running

With the DashCon fiasco fresh in people's minds, I made a tumblr post on what you need to think about before you decide to run a convention.

Some of it I learned the hard way, but I didn't tell them that.

I have no idea about cons. I don't attend cons, I don't want to organize cons, but I still enjoyed reading this.

Friends don't let friends run cons. I would have tried to talk you out of it had I known about it in advance. :)

That being said, great post, and useful for ANY organization. Also? I'll stick to either being a Companion-of-the-Guest or the Security Team. Hours are better in the Companion gig, but Security gets the BEST stories....

Honestly, helping run this con was up there with the most rewarding things I've ever done. But it worked because we had an amazing team, and it didn't hurt that our smallish group of attendees also skewed really friendly and accepting as far as these things go.

Very well said indeed. Also: you don't have to be crazy to run a con... but it helps.
