That's the thing about anthologies: there's always one story that makes you wonder what the editor was thinking. Like, if that piece were a *novel*, it would be much better, because there's more room for exposition and explaining all the things. That's the hardest thing for me in writing short stories: not putting in All The Things because there isn't space.
