Well, that was in reference to a friend telling me "public transportation is all well and good, but I *need* my car." For certain things, like going to a place a hundred miles away to stock up on something you can only get there and fill your trunk with it, sure. But for going to your boyfriend's house with a bag of clothes? (Or the other way around.) If we had good public transit options that didn't stop at 8 pm (which is absolutely ridiculous, and the actual time they stop in Chapel Hill), it wouldn't make a difference.

There are also rules against taking animals (that aren't service animals) on public transit in our part of the world, so taking the critters to the vet would be difficult.
