Yeah, it's TOTALLY fucking mockworthy that people are in their 30s. FUCKING LOLARIOUS.

ETA: It's been pointed out that said person has welcomed mockery. My opinion is still the same. I hate the idea that because you've reached an arbitrary number of years lived, which really isn't all that goddamn many tbh, that's worthy of scorn, derision, or mockery.

It's ageist bullshit, and society needs to stop propagating it with bullshit black cakes and balloons and "over the hill" nonsense.

Oh god playing JRPGs always makes me feel old because most of the main characters are 20 at oldest. Characters that are in their thirties end up getting called "old man" fairly often, which is really f-ing annoying all things considered.

... not that Western RPGs are free from blame. There's a 40-ish year old female soldier in the game "Alpha Protocol" who consistently gets called a cougar because she's into the main character (who, though I made him look at least in his thirties, is probably supposed to be just over 20 or something).

And watching cartoons where the heroes are like 16... I've been partial to the oyaji characters for a while, but they're usually side characters.

So when something like Planetes or Patlabor comes along, and the main characters are all in their 20s or older (and Giant Killing! The MC is like 32 or something), I'm all over that. And I often prefer shows about college students, even if they're still too young, because unless it's a pretty universal story, I don't relate with high school kids.

Yeah, I've found myself really hating high school stories. Most of the BL manga I read (and enjoy) these days features either college students or professionals. The high school stuff annoys me because it's always about finding TRUE LOVE when you're... sixteen.

I ♥ the oyaji characters. :) They tend to be the most well-adjusted ones anyway, none of the whining about how unfair life is to them.

There are a couple high school stories I've enjoyed recently (Toradora, for one), and yeah, the idea that your first love is your true love sucks and annoys me, but I still liked it XD

And I really liked Yoshinaga Fumi's "Flower of Life," which is set in high school, but it's not a romance story (or even BL like most of her other work, and holy shit have I mentioned how fucking awesome Ooku is? IT'S FUCKING AWESOME.) I love her stories, because she can make her tropes into people. Which rocks.
