It's sometimes rather painful, isn't it? They seem to have picked names that the Japanese can mostly pronounce - Mittermeyer, Oberstein, Lohengramm - though Kircheis is kind of complicated. They make a fairly passable attempt at ΓΌ (though it's more yu than ue; it's not oo anyway.)

That sounds like quite a recipe for befuddlement, there. Though when I first started taking Japanese at UNC, I started answering in German a lot. Because it wasn't English, right? -__-
