Hey, wait, I know that guy...

So, the other week when I was walking back to my car from the yarn shop, I walked past the Blue Bayou club. They had a little flyer up for a Middle Eastern jazz fusion band, named Jaafar, playing sometime in the near future. I thought, huh, that sounds interesting, I ought to remember that.

Then I forgot. But I was reminded walking back to the car from the farmers' market a few days later, but we were on the wrong side of the street to check the date. Then I forgot to check again.

Last night at class, Violet was wearing a Jaafar t-shirt, and I said, huh. Did I already miss the show? I ought to go check that.

Then I forgot, until a post about music at the World Cup came through the World Cup blog. So I looked it up. They've got some sample mp3s, and it's kinda cool. It's the sort of music I could have in the background while I'm doing other things.

The first place I checked was upcoming shows, and the Bayou show is April 1. So I didn't miss it, but it's a weeknight, so, hmm. Then I listened to some mp3 samples. Then I went to the about page and started scrolling through the list of people (lotsa white folks, but a few Middle Eastern and South Asians) and ... hey, that's Guhl. Huh. Explains why Violet has their t-shirt, I guess.

I think it's the type of band that plays with whoever shows up, judging by the size of the list. There's probably a core group and people they pick up as needed. I dunno.

(The white guy went on spiritual quest in Egypt line is kinda sketch, but at least he's got *some* cred in that regard.)

Tomorrow I'm losing a good bit of work time, because I've got an eye doctor's appointment at 10:20, then a hair appointment at 11:30. I should have time in the afternoon, though I'm going out for dinner at 7.

I'm gonna have to focus this weekend and get a few hours in both days. At the rate I'm going, it'll be June before I finish the first draft, and I kind of want to get it to people by the end of April (so they can have it 6 weeks or so, while I'm gallivanting.)

It's kind of annoying that I start to get fuzzy-headed after an hour or two of editing.
