"dum spiro spero" is certainly pithier! Though I'm rather fond of the Vorkosigan quote. (Which is from The Warrior's Apprentice, according to wikiquote. That's my third-favorite Miles book (after Memory and The Vor Game). All the good quotes from Memory are too long to make a good tattoo, and my favorite is a bit of dialogue...)
