BINBerlinerIn I found this video from ARD, "Deukisch für Anfänger." I was a bit nervous about it, but it's not as terrifying as I thought it would be. One of the people who works for RBB is the daughter of Gastarbeiter, and she was the main focus of the show, as well as a guy who runs the Wäscherei his parents founded, a guy who runs a travel agency, a guy who runs a fighting gym, and a woman who's a club DJ, with appearances from a linguist, politicians (including Wowi and Cem Özdemir), and others.
It's quite interesting, and it has a bias toward understanding each other. They mention the sometimes-brutal conditions the Gastarbeiter worked under in the 60s (and later), the segregation and ghettoization, the bias in schools, and how their situation changed after reunification. If you have 45 minutes and speak German, it's worth watching.
The DJ in the video is DJ Ipek, who does shows live in clubs (including SO36) and on Multicult.fm Yay, new things!
